I want to start by saying that no, I am NOT pregnant and don’t plan to be soon. I’ve had a diary app on my phone since May of 2016, and a few nights ago, I was going through my old entries. One of my posts from August 2016 was a letter to my unborn child, and it was such an adorable little thing I wrote (no, I wasn’t pregnant then either). I thought it would be nice to share it here, but with a couple of revisions and additions to it. 23-year-old me writes a lot better than 19-year-old me!
I am excited about having a little mini-me eventually, but sometimes I get anxious about it, too. Sometimes, I get so anxious that I start second-guessing if I actually want to have children in the future. Then I see my cute nephews or other adorable kids on the street and instantly get baby fever! Then I spend a day with my nephews when they’re being bad. It’s like, do I or do I not want kids? Since I have zero plans of having a child any time soon, I still have some time to mentally prepare and decide what I want.
Now without further adieu, here is a letter to my unborn child:
Dear Baby Boy or Girl,
You have no idea how much I’m going to spoil you!!! Get ready for endless cuddles, kisses, and a boatload of compliments. You’re going to be the most handsome/beautiful baby in the whole wide world, and I will make sure you know that. You’re going to be so intelligent, and I can’t wait to see what great things you will accomplish in life.
I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure you have it made and that you do your very best in life. Want to be an athlete in school? I’ll make sure to be at all your games. Want to play music? I’ll be in the front row of your concert, cheering you on. Want to be a scientist? You do you, boo! Whatever your heart’s desire may be, you can do it, knowing that I will always support you 1000%. You know, as long as it’s legal. And ethical.
I’ll do my best to teach you to be confident and independent and the best damn you that you can be. I promise to always set a good example for you and be there for you whenever you need it. I’ll be your best friend when you need it, and you can always count on me for anything. I can only hope to make you the happiest human ever, take you on unforgettable adventures, and help you navigate this thing called life.
I know you don’t exist yet, and I know you won’t exist anytime soon, but I want you to know that you are so loved already. I think about you often, but I want to make sure that I’m completely ready to care for you before I start planning for you! To be honest, sometimes I get terrified that I might fail you or that you’ll grow up hating me. All I want is for you to look up to me and be proud to call me your mother. I’ll try my hardest not to be overbearing, but if it does happen, please forgive me. I’ll be working on that.
I already love you so much, and I can’t wait to meet you in the next couple of years.
With love,
Your Mommy ❤️️
Aww, I love it! 🥰️
